Accommodation
Trailbase mountain retreat, Sierra Nevada, Spain.
This is it! Our baby. And like most babies the initial joy of conception was followed by a long and often painful period of waiting and hoping but at long last it’s here! Our first wilderness property in the beautiful Sierra Nevada region of Spain.
Primarily purchased for our own adventures it is available to rent for a limited number of weeks a year.
Positioned towards the more undiscovered eastern end of the rugged Sierra Nevada mountain range our little hidden gem will offer a unique wilderness experience in basic but comfortable accommodation for up to 8 people. Solar powered, with water fed from a mountain spring this secluded ex hunting lodge is a very special place from which your adventures and exploration can begin.
At 1600m elevation you can awake to clean mountain air, then hike/bike straight out the door and into 86,208ha of breathtaking National Park, also classified as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
The lodge is available on a self catering basis (click here for details of our guided trips), and we can provide you with the maps and info you need to plan your own mini expeditions allowing you to explore the wilderness on your own terms.
This is a real mountain lodge in a real mountain setting and therefore hiring a 4x4 is highly recommended to access the property and make the most of the area (though we have used a normal ‘family’ type car on many occasions with no real trouble, it just depends on how comfortable you are with pushing the boundaries of what a standard car is meant for).
Just drop us an email or give us a call for a friendly chat and we can discuss what options and possibilities are available, as well as prices etc.
The level of your adventure is only limited by your imagination. So whether you want to enjoy a little peace and tranquillity or endure multi-day gut busting epic adventures the choice will be yours.

Other Activities
Photography / Art / Nature
It’s no surprise that a number of photographers, artists, and writers have chosen to make this region their home. With a Unesco Biosphere Reserve status the area has an extraordinarily diverse range of flora and fauna. This together with a beautiful backdrop of mountain terrain and a superb quality of natural light make this a virtual wonderland for anyone interested in photographing, painting, or simply just enjoying the very best that mother nature has to offer.
Culture & more
The beautiful Moorish whitewashed hilltop villages of Capileira, Bubion, and Pampaneira (1.5hrs) are all classified as ‘Cultural Assets’, and nearby Trevelez (1hr) is claimed to be the highest village in Spain. With these and the magnificent Moorish city of Granada (2hrs) all within reach the area is alive with culture old and new. With rock climbing, horse trekking, 4x4 safaris, winter dog sledding, the beaches of the costas (1.5hrs), and not to mention the world championship ski resort of Sol y Nieve (2.5hrs) offering 60kms of pistes, the area has a huge amount to offer the intrepid traveller.
